For a true niche museum, look no further than the outrageous Liberace Museum in fabulous Las Vegas. It’s a one-of-a-kind spectacle of dazzling pianos, magnificent cars, lavish costumes and opulent jewelry that belonged to the legendary Mr. Showmanship. Visitors touring the museum will find an incredible collection of rare and outrageous pianos, from the rhinestone-encrusted Baldwin grand to the concert grand that’s entirely covered in glittering mirror squares and said to have been Liberace’s favorite. The Piano Gallery is home to 18 pianos, which include the hand-painted Pleyel and a Chickering grand that was once owned by George Gershwin.
As impressive as the pianos are, they’re no match for Liberace’s magnificent costume and jewelry collections. Visitors will see the rhinestone-lined, floor-length black diamond mink cape, the 200-pound “King Neptune” costume and the one-and-only red, white and blue hot pants suit, as well as a range of Liberace’s famous feathered capes and furs. The lavish jewelry displays feature Liberace’s famous trademark candelabra ring, a white and yellow gold piano-shaped ring that includes 260 individually set diamonds and a piano-shaped wristwatch that’s paved with diamonds, rubies, sapphires and emeralds.
Perhaps the most exotic gallery at the Liberace Museum features his collection of rare automobiles. The elaborate and ornate vehicles include bejeweled Rolls-Royces and a rhinestone-studded Roadster. The museum is also home to a spot-on recreation of Liberace’s master bedroom from his Palm Springs estate, complete with antique furniture and selections of his Moser crystal collection.
