Nevada is a state rich in history and culture, but richer still in its collection of museums. From small, eclectic compilations to grand exhibits, visitors will find historic, artistic and niche offerings in nearly every town in the state.

With so much to explore, where should you begin? Our eight state museums tell the incredible tale of Nevada, from the ancient Native American tribes that once roamed here to the influence of the railway and the Comstock mining boom that changed the face of Nevada forever. Visitors will find restored railcars, ancient relics, preserved fossils and more, all of which offer a fascinating glimpse of the Silver State as it once was. But it doesn’t stop there. Art lovers will appreciate the incredible range of art in both the Las Vegas Art Museum, which focuses on contemporary artists, and the award-winning Nevada Museum of Art in Reno. And in Virginia City, budding artists can put brush to canvas at one of the St. Mary’s Art Center’s many workshops.

For the car buff, Nevada offers a choice of intriguing automotive museums. Don Laughlin’s Classic Car Collection in Laughlin showcases more than 80 rare, antique and historic vehicles, while Reno’s National Automobile Museum, also known as the Harrah Collection, features more than 220 of Bill Harrah’s incredible automobiles, as well as interesting changing exhibits.

Both northern and southern Nevada also offer museums to delight a child’s senses. The Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada in Carson City focuses on arts, sciences and humanities with interactive exhibits that combine fun and learning. In Las Vegas, the award-winning Lied Discovery Children’s Museum ranks among the nation’s largest children’s museums and features more than 100 temporary and permanent hands-on exhibits.

Lovers of all things quirky will find their tastes satisfied with visits to the one-of-a-kind Liberace Museum and the world-famous wax museum, Madame Tussauds, both in Las Vegas.

For delightful education, surprising inspiration and laugh-out-loud entertainment, you just can’t beat Nevada’s museums. Plan your visit today.
